Midwest Writers is proud to offer year-round writing events that cover everything from writing craft, the writing life, author branding and marketing, traditional publishing and self publishing. And we’re always brainstorming new programming, so keep an eye our for that–subscribe to our newsletter for the latest announcements!

Each year, we hold the following events:

  • Online Masterclass with Jane Friedman: a virtual seminar with publishing industry expert Jane Friedman on topics surrounding publishing, branding, platform, marketing, etc. (topics vary from year to year)
  • Me Publishing Me: a one-day virtual conference on aspects of self-publishing from the “why” to the “how.” Learn how to get your work out there through marketing and branding, increase your platform, and maintain revenue streams. Faculty include experienced and well-established  authors with the practical know-how to  get your started on self-publishing.
  • Midwest Writers Workshop Summer Conference (AKA MWW25, MWW26, and so on): a three-day hybrid conference in Muncie, IN and Zoom. Includes early two dozen sessions on writing craft and writing life from award-winning and experienced faculty, two keynote speakers (one of whom is Jane Friedman), plenty of networking opportunities, and the opportunity (for an additional fee) to have a sample of your manuscript read by a member of the faculty or our experienced manuscript evaluation team.
  • Agent Fest Online: a four-day virtual conference with a faculty made up of literary agents who each give a session on a different aspect of the traditional publishing life, from writing query letters or proposals, investigating comparative titles, researching and working with agents, writing compelling first pages–the list goes on, and changes every year! The agents also hear pitches from attendees throughout the conference; when you register you have the option to pitch to up to three of them! This conference also includes “Pitch Practice” sessions to help you hone your pitch, and a “First Page Read” wherein agents hear the first page of randomly selected, anonymous attendees and offer feedback. For an additional fee, you can have an agent critique your query and the first page of your manuscript.

For all virtual events, registrants receive a recording of the session(s) for ninety days following the event.
